Shimla is at an elevation of 2200 meters above mean sea level. The view of snowclad peaks on a clear day is astounding, and suddenly you are transformed into another world. This remotely located hill station, hidden in the lap of the Himalayan foothills takes you back to the bygone era of Raj. Here, European and Indian life parallel to each other, and when the Brits left in 1947 they left an end number of marks of their presence here in the shape of buildings, bazaars, shops, railway, and much more.

You are going to stay here for six nights.

  • Day 2 Shimla Heritage Walk
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Shimla Heritage Walk

Today is your first day in Shimla and is the day to learn about this British Himalayan town. A Heritage Walk in Shimla is the best way to do so. You will walk through the Heritage Zone of Shimla with your local guide.

The Heritage Walk introduces you to the past & present of this hill station as you visit some of the buildings of the Victorian and post Victorian era.

  • Day 3 Forest Walk
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Forest Walk

Today a short drive brings you to the starting point. The astounding view of the Great Himalayan Ranges, on a clear day, from here forces you to be there for a long. We continue and follow the trail leading to a forest and walk through a village, pass a school, a temple, and then finish our walk near a local house where the local family waits for us on lunch.

  • Day 4 Viceroyโ€™S Hunting Forest
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Viceroyโ€™S Hunting Forest

      Walk: 8 km

This day is going to be a great day. A forty-five minutes drive brings you to the starting point of the trail. You will walk through the forest that was regularly used by the Viceroy of India, for hunting. The trail was the actual way for the Raja of the local dynasty to go to Shimla on his horse. We shall walk through this forest on the old trail, and then drive for half an hour to a Royal Family house for Lunch. Arki is an old dynasty and the Haveli of Arki is inhabited by the descendants of the Royal family.

      Return Shimla by 5 pm.

  • Day 5 Shali Tibba Trek
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Shali Tibba Trek

This is going to be a long day. A two hours drive to the starting point and then hike for two and a half hours. The amazing but gradual hike up to the highest peak in the closest vicinity of Shimla.

Clouds dipping in the valleys, hanging cliffs, forested paths, trails branching off in both directions, calls of some Himalayan birds and a few village houses sheltered by the wilderness are the main features of this trek. There is nothing here that does not fascinate you. You are going to be here with yourself. Locals visit the temple on the top of the Shali peak almost every week which is dedicated to Maa Bhimakali and is situated on a round-shaped plateau with a square platform on the top.

We drive out of Shimla for about 40 kilometre till the bottom of the peak from where a narrow trail whirls up around the hills and through the dense blue pine & cedar forests and Rolling Meadows.

  • Day 6 Nature Walk
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Nature Walk

This is a blend of Art, Culture, and Nature. A mixture of uphill and downhill walking experiences in Shimla brings you close to many natural aspects. Forests, meadows, grasslands, and hamlets are the main features. We walk through the Ecological zone of Shimla.  This trail goes around an old hill, to the west of Shimla. This is an ecological transit zone where you start with the cedar forest, enter the pine trees, and then end in the oak forest. During the British era, this hill was one of the picnic spots of the Brits. This pristine forest is full of birds, flowers, plants, peace, and silence. Follow the less-used path through the dense forests that lead to villages, hamlets, and water bodies and end at an art gallery.

A visit to the art gallery and then we drive back to Shimla. Lunch at the art gallery is highly recommended.
