Itinerary of your trip 11 Days Grand South Morocco Experience Tour From Marrakesh

  • Day 1 Arrival In Marrakech
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Arrival In Marrakech

Welcome to Marrakech, Morocco. This vibrant city has a myriad of things to see, do, taste, smell, and enjoy! Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at the airport or from your accommodation in Marrakech. Thereโ€™s not much time to explore Marrakech today, but if you arrive early, thereโ€™s plenty to see and do. Just speak to your travel expert to organize extra accommodation.

  • Day 2 Marrakech To Ouarzazate
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Marrakech To Ouarzazate

This morning, journey along mountain roads and over Moroccoโ€™s highest pass, Tizi nโ€™Tichka (2260 meters above sea level), to Ait Benhaddou on the edges of the Sahara. Perched on a hilltop and almost unchanged since the 11th century, Ait Benhaddou is one of Moroccoโ€™s most iconic sites and a World Heritage site. It was once an important stop for caravans passing through as they carried salt across the Sahara, returning with gold, ivory, and slaves. Does it look familiar? The town has a long list of film and TV credits, including Lawrence of Arabia and Game of Thrones! Enjoy a leader-led walk through the winding streets of the old town, making your way to the top of the hill, from where you can enjoy the views across the surrounding plains. After exploring this historical site, continue your drive to Ouarzazate to discover the cinema studios and tourist kasbah before arriving at your accommodation.

  • Day 3 Ouarzazate - Zagora
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Ouarzazate - Zagora

This morning, youโ€™ll journey south towards the Sahara Desert, traveling through the lush Draa Valley to Zagora. Join a local guide to uncover the underground kasbah. Take a stroll through the palm groves, explore the ksars, and wander around the surrounding countryside in the heart of the Draa Valley. Visit the old kasbah of Tamnougalt. Then head to Zagora, a small oasis town on the Sahara fringe that is perfect for an overnight stop.

      Overnight with dinner.

  • Day 4 Zagora - Erg Chigaga
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Zagora - Erg Chigaga

Today youโ€™ll drive along the rugged and desolate Jbel Tadrart ranges and through seas of sand past the occasional Sahara Desert oasis of date palms, to the township of Tamegroute. Here, youโ€™ll visit an intriguing library filled with ancient scripts of science, literature, the Koran, and stories of the Prophet Mohammed (subject to unregulated opening times). Afterward, join a local guide to uncover the underground kasbah. Then, carry on driving to the frontier town of Mโ€™Hamid. From here, you will start your 4WD adventure and drive to the massive Erg Chigaga dunes. This is the largest dune in the Moroccan Sahara and one of the less visited โ€“ meaning your experience will be further from surrounding towns and villages, making for a unique experience. Arrive in the late afternoon and then all aboard for the experience of a lifetime โ€“ ride a camel into the Sahara dunes to enjoy the sunset. Tonight, enjoy a night under the stars at your desert camp.

      Overnight with dinner.

  • Day 5 Erg Chegaga - Taroudant
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Erg Chegaga - Taroudant

Leave the dunes behind and travel to the market town of Taroudant today after breakfast, stopping along the way to stretch your legs and take in some epic views. Enjoy desert scenery along a route thatโ€™s actually a reserve for the indigenous argan trees. Youโ€™ll make a pitstop at a local womenโ€™s cooperative specializing in argan oil production. This coop provides women and their families in rural area with extra income for their community, promoting independence. Youโ€™ll learn about how the argan is extracted from the trees, how itโ€™s produced, and then have the opportunity to try the Amlou paste โ€“ a common dip in Morocco made with almond and argan oil. Arrive at your accommodation by the early evening. Your riad for tonight has a steam bath and a pool โ€“ the perfect way to relax after the Sahara desert experience.

  • Day 6 Taroudant - Tafraoute
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Taroudant - Tafraoute

Venture deeper into the Anti-Atlas region, known for its spectacular natural rock formations and stark, lunar landscapes. Visit Aรฏt Mansour Gorge, a stunning valley of pink-hued cliffs that harbor lush palm groves. Take a walk through the valley in the shade of towering palms and have lunch at the home of a local family. Later, hike to the rock formation known as Le Chapeau de Napolรฉon, or Napoleonโ€™s Hat, before continuing to Tafraoute for the evening.

  • Day 7 Tafraoute - Essaouira
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Tafraoute - Essaouira

Today, head west to the coastal town of Essaouira, stopping in the coastal city of Agadir to stretch your legs by the beach. Then continue driving to Essaouira. The name Essaouira means โ€˜pretty picture,โ€™ which is appropriate since itโ€™s such a picturesque town! Within the stone ramparts, youโ€™ll find whitewashed houses with bright blue shutters, art galleries, and wood workshops โ€“ ironically, the perfect spot for photos! This evening is free for you to explore or relax.

  • Day 8 Essaouira
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Essaouira

Today after breakfast, join a local guide for a walking tour through the old medina, Jewish Mellah, port, and Skala (sea wall). Essaouira is one of the oldest port cities in the country, and fishing here is still quite traditional. Youโ€™ll have the chance to meet one of the expert fishermen in the port, who will tell the group all about their story and show you some of the tricks they use, what type of fish to catch, and what the seasons mean to them. After, enjoy free time for the rest of the day. Jimi Hendrix spent a lot of time here during the 60s, so you know this is a great spot to sit, people watch, and listen to the sound of the ocean. Maybe grab a freshly cooked plate of the dayโ€™s catch at the port or browse the plentiful shops and intriguing art galleries. This is also a hotspot for surfing, so consider taking a lesson if thatโ€™s your thing. If youโ€™d prefer to relax, donโ€™t miss the opportunity to indulge in a hammam (Moroccan day spa) or local-style bath.

  • Day 9 Essaouira - Marrakech
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Essaouira - Marrakech

Enjoy your transfer back to Marrakech. Enjoy free time when you arrive to explore or partake in optional activities. Walk around the famed Jemaa el-Fnaa Square โ€“ one of the largest public squares in the world โ€“ and take it all in. From fire dancers to performers and street food carts, this is somewhere you actually want to get lost. Optional dinner in a fine Moroccan restaurant with a show.

  • Day 10 Marrakech Exploration
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Marrakech Exploration

Start your day with a guided city tour by exploring the iconic Koutoubia Mosque and its towering minaret.
