Chiang Saen was founded in the 10th century, immediately after the Thais immigrated from southern China, and became the first capital of the Thais (Lanna Kingdom). We then head to the "Golden Triangle". It is probably primarily the bad reputation of the triangle as one of the largest opium-growing areas in the world that attracts countless tourists here every year, although opium was never grown here itself. After a look upstream to Laos and Myanmar, you visit the Opium Museum. You then drive along a very scenic mountain route to Chiang Mai. Overnight stay in Chiang Mai and free time.
