If you travel alone, you will always have to share a room. If you travel with your partner or group, in all the accommodations you have the opportunity to obtain double, triple or quadruple rooms (with shared bathrooms in some places). The accommodation included is at Chillax Heritage, floating bungalows, on train, Clover Hotel, Mac Bay Resort, and Andaman Legacy Resort.

Thai Experience finishes in Phuket. You can choose to stay on longer in Phuket or if you need to get back to Bangkok the quickest option is to get a flight from Phuket airport. This can be organised with the help of your Group Leader if needed. The earliest flight out of Phuket should be booked, it is approx. at 12pm on day 13. Your Group Leader will help with any other local transport and ensure you’re comfortable with all parts of your onward travel.

You will have free wifi available at some of the accommodations included. Wifi isn’t available on the overnight train or Khao Sok. The quality of Thailand's network is also lower than usual. But you can always connect and do basic things.

The minimum age required to take this experience on any of the available dates is 17 years and we recommend to be 55 years old maximum since most travelers who join this adventure are within this range, so everyone has the same rhythm and enjoy the experience to the fullest. It is possible that on some specific dates minors from 5 years may travel, they must be accompanied by at least one responsible adult (+18 years). The dates available for families with children are as follows: 2022: December 7th. 2023: April 3rd. Children under 5-11 years old have a preferential rate (see the extras section). You will visit Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, this place guarantees the elephants are treated with respect and are really taken good care of

You will get a private mini van transfer to Bangkok train station at around 4pm from the accommodation. The train leaves roughly around 5.30pm as it goes through the night, and get into Surat Thani around 6am. You get off the train at Surat Thani and then have another private mini van transfer to Khao Sok. The trains have pull down beds with a pillow and fresh bed linen. You can also travel on the first class service. The train makes a few stops during travel, but its not very frequently. The check in is usually after 2 or 3 pm, this may vary from one place to another. If you get there before this schedule, we suggest leaving your luggage at reception and walking around the area until your room is ready. Check out is usually at 12 pm, but this also may vary from one place to another. We suggest asking for this information on arrival at the accommodation. It is important to follow this schedule; otherwise, additional charges may apply (to be paid on destination, not included).

The only physical interaction with the elephants is a brief moment where they are fed in a special area created with a double barrier between the elephants and our visitors, this happens only twice a day. Only 4 of the 12 elephants that live in the sanctuary participate in this brief interaction because they are comfortable doing so, while the other 8 elephants have no interaction with the visitors.

When the sanctuary first opened in 2016 there were fewer care protocols that allowed for a little more interaction with some of the elephants (such as touching their trunks), however, we have gradually increased the responsibility of care with the elephants so the distance between visitors and elephants has increased, and since 2018 we maintain a strict distance of at least 6 meters from the elephants. In the interest of care, we built a new canopy walkway 500 meters long from which visitors can observe the elephants, so the distance increases again for the benefit of the elephants. If you see some images with more online interaction, this means you are seeing older photos from before 2018 or photos of people who visited other places and accidentally tagged or signed in to the sanctuary from our social networking experience. Unfortunately, this happens quite often as there are numerous places with similar names to ours in Phuket.

Safaris are the best way to observe wild elephants in their natural habitat. However, wild elephants are very different from captive elephants. Elephants that were born in captivity and worked all their lives in the logging or tourism industries cannot be easily rehabilitated in their natural habitat, as they depend on humans for food and medical care. The best we can do is rescue them from places where they are exploited, and create a place for them that is as close as possible to their natural habitat. That is exactly what they do here at Phuket Elephant Sanctuary. The 12 elephants under our care require special medical attention and complementary food, and by visiting us, tourists can help us provide the best possible care for the elephants and at the same time have the opportunity to observe them in a mini safari in our 30 hectare jungle.
