Itinerary of your trip Explore Antigua, Tikal And Reach The Top Of Zunil Peak

  • Day 1 Departure from Antigua - Going up to Xeabaj
    • 5:00 am - 7:00 pm

Departure from Antigua - Going up to Xeabaj

Today the appointment is at 05:00 am at the following address: 5a Avenida y 6a Calle, Antigua, Guatemala. Upon arrival you will meet your guide and can fill your water bottles and purchase any additional equipment you may need. In the morning, the starting point is located on the Panamerican Highway over Lake Atitlan. You will enjoy a light breakfast on the way, and after arriving at the trailhead, you will pack your equipment and head out on a hike along the centuries-old Mayan trade routes. You walk through deep ravines and river canyons, past Mayan ceremonial sites, and up through remote Mayan communities in the Western Highlands. Take a short break and enjoy a freshly prepared picnic lunch around noon. You end the day at a quiet campsite located on a narrow ridge in the abandoned village of Xeabaj. Xeabaj, which translates as "under the rock", will provide you with stellar views of the surrounding mountains and valleys in all directions. The guides will prepare a cool camping dinner under the stars as a perfect ending to a hard day's walking.

At dawn enjoy breakfast and coffee. Afterwards, you will dismount the camp and set off towards the goal of the day: the "Seven Crosses" trail. These seven crosses cross the top of the spectacular mountain range that leads to "Pico Zunil". The hike begins with a hard climb to a fertile platform at about 2700m, where the landscape is surreal, highlighted by incredible views and exuberant flora. You take a break at the top of the climb to catch your breath and replenish your strength at lunchtime. Afterwards, you start a gentle climb up to the path on the ridge at 3000m. This ridge offers some of the most impressive views in Guatemala of the "Ring of Fire" - 15 volcanoes that stretch from the border with El Salvador to Mexico. Camp tonight on the ridge overlooking the Almolonga Valley on one side, and on the other, overlooking the volcanoes that surround Guatemala's second largest city - Quetzaltenango (Xela).

You descend the long and winding 1,800-meter descent through the thick tropical cloud forest to the amazing therapeutic hot springs of Fuentes Georginas. Here you leave your backpack, put on your swimsuit, and immerse our tired legs in the thermal pools while we enjoy an icy drink and a delicious lunch. After our soak, we will get on our private transport and return to Antigua, arriving just at sunset. To rest tonight in the city of Antigua and get ready for the next day.
