Day 1: Welcome to Istanbul

Pass By: Sultanahmet District, Istanbul 34122 Turkey
After arrival at your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure; perhaps visit Istanbulโ€™s Ottoman mosques or Byzantine churches, or experience the frenzy of its world-famous souks (markets).

Day 2: Istanbul city tour

Stop At: Hagia Sophia Museum, Ayasofya Square, Sultanahmet, Istanbul 34122 Turkey
Enjoy breakfast and then set off for a full-day tour of Istanbul by luxury minibus, taking in the city highlights. First stop is the Blue Mosque โ€“ an ornate mosque that rules Istanbulโ€™s skyline with its six minarets. Explore inside with your guide and marvel at the ceiling, consisting nearly entirely of vivid blue tiles, hence the mosqueโ€™s name. Continue to Hagia Sophia, Istanbulโ€™s Byzantine Church that was once a mosque and is now a museum. Stroll around inside and admire its Christian-period mosaics and Ottoman-era relics.

After a break for a typical Turkish lunch of soup, meatballs or chicken and fresh fruit in town, continue your tour with a visit to Topkapi Palace โ€“ Turkeyโ€™s largest palace and most important museum with countless relics from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Learn of the extravagant sultans who once lived here and then walk through town to see the Hippodrome, where raucous chariot races once took place. Spend your evening at leisure in Istanbul.

Day 3: Gallipoli battlefields tour

Stop At: Gallipoli Battlefield, Eceabat Turkey
After an early breakfast, pack up and leave your Istanbul hotel to travel south by minibus to Canakkale โ€“ the perfect seaside base for visiting Gallipoli. On arrival, drop off your bags at your hotel and then depart for an afternoon tour of the Gallipoli battlefield sites of World War I.

During the war, the allied forces launched an offensive attack here with the aim of capturing Constantinople. The mission failed, and the battlefields, once the scene of bloodshed and turmoil, are now serene with memorials to fallen soldiers from both sides of the battle lines. Visit Anzac Cove, where the more notable battles were fought, and see Lone Pine Australian Memorial and Chunuk Bair New Zealand Memorial. Other important sites visited with your guide include Brighton Beach, Beach Cemetery, Ari Burnu Cemetery and Johnstonโ€™s Jolly โ€“ home to original Allied and Turkish trenches. Return to Canakkale for dinner in your hotel and spend your evening at leisure.

Day 4: Ancient Troy

Stop At: Troy (Truva), Tevfikiye Koyu, Intepe, Canakkale Turkey
Relax over breakfast in your hotel before check out, and then visit Cimenlik Fortress in Canakkale โ€“ a 15th-century stronghold that was built to control shipping. Now operating as a military museum, the fortress is fascinating to explore. See military equipment from the Ottoman era and artifacts from WWI. The replica Nusret mine layer ship, which played an integral part in WWI, is nearby and is now open as a museum. Head inside and get a glimpse of life on board a battleship.

After lunch in Canakkale (own expense), meet your guide and travel to the ancient city of Troy for an afternoon of walking around its crumbling ruins. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Troy dates back nearly 4,000 years. On a walking tour, hear tales of the Trojan War โ€“ an important Greek mythological story โ€“ and learn about the Trojan prince (Paris) who ran away with Zeusโ€™ daughter (Helen) and sparked the lengthy war. After exploring, visit the wooden Trojan Horse that symbolizes the town and the Trojan War, and then head back to Istanbul for the night. Stop during on the journey for dinner (own expense).

Day 5: Istanbul

Pass By: Sultanahmet District, Istanbul 34122 Turkey
Enjoy breakfast, and then the morning is yours to spend at leisure in Istanbul โ€“ perhaps shopping for souvenirs or sightseeing independently. At a pre-arranged time in the afternoon, check out of your hotel and finish your tour with a transfer to either of Istanbul's two major airports or another Istanbul hotel.
